Jewish Books
Judaism is a monotheistic religion based upon doctrine and beliefs embodied in the Hebrew Bible (Tanakh), as discovered and clarified in the Talmud and other texts. According to Jewish tradition and belief, Judaism begins with the Covenant between God and Abraham. Judaism has at all times esteemed ‘Torah’ their religious book and as well as other religious texts. The foundation of Jewish laws and traditions is the Torah which is also considered as the ‘Pentateuch’ or the ‘Five Books of Moses’. According to rabbinic tradition and belief there are 613 commandments in their religious book, Torah. Torah with some other relevant Jewish books is regarded as the main components of Jewish literature.
Jewish holydays are celebrated and is greatly related with landmark events in Jewish history. The three major festivals, Sukkot, Passover and Shavuot, are called “regalim” which is derived from the Hebrew word “regel,” or foot. On the three regalim, it was usual for the Israelites to make pilgrimages to Jerusalem to present sacrifices in the Temple. The position of the priesthood in Judaism has considerably moderated and diminished since the demolition of the Second Temple in 70 CE. The priesthood is a hereditary position, and even though priests no longer have any significance but except in ceremonial functions, they are still honored in many Jewish communities.
In many developed and industrialized nations with good economies, such as the United States, United Kingdom, Israel, South Africa, Argentina and Canada, a wide variety of Jewish practices exist along with the growing popularity of secular and non-practicing Jews. Nowadays, we can find many Jewish books in the bookstores all over the world. These books are totally religious books which contains relevant practices of Jews. Mostly Jewish prayer books contain prayers which are relevant and essential for making prayers in their everyday life.
